Organize Test Cases into Tree Structure with synapseRT Test Suite

Test case management is one of the most important activities performed by a Quality Assurance (QA) team. Test case management tasks include test case creation, updating, and maintenance; whether these tasks can be completed comfortably and productively depends on your test case structure. The ability to properly organize and group test cases is a fundamental requirement for a test case management tool.

Almost all popular standalone test management tools, they are organizing test cases into a tree structure. synapseRT also organizes test cases into a tree structure with 'Test Suite' approach in JIRA.

Manage test cases in 'Test Suite':

  1. Add Test Case: It takes you to 'Create Issue' screen, once the test case creation is done, the test case will present in the test suite from which you started test case creation. Start your test case creation from test suite to build test case structure at the very beginning.
  2. Link Test Case: It will link any existing test case/s to the test suite, it helps user building test case structure after the test case is created.
  3. Add Test Suite: It will create a subtest suite from the current one, it helps user creating a structure for test cases.
  4. Import: Import test cases from a .csv file, test cases with steps information and structure information (test suite) can be imported together.
  5. Export: All test cases and test suites inside the current test suite will be exported to be a .csv file, the .csv file can be imported back with 'Import' action.
  6. Move or Copy: It will move or copy a test suite with its test case associations and hierarchy information to a new location, the new location could either be in same 'Root Test Suite' or other 'Root Test Suite' existed in the project.
  7. Delete Test Suite: It will delete the test suite with its test case associations and hierarchy information, please note that it only deletes the linkage, the test case issues still stay in JIRA project.
  8. Clone Test Case: It will clone a single test case when a user views test cases from test suite page, requirement and test suite associations can also be cloned.
  9. Remove Test Case: It will remove a single test case from the current test suite, please note that it only removes the linkage, the test case issue still stays in JIRA project.
  10. Drag & Drop Test Case: It will move the test case to a new location, to make sure the test case is located at a right location in the test suite.
  11. Export: It allows user selecting multiple test cases from multiple test suites, and export them to be a .csv file, the .csv file can be imported back with 'Import' action.
  12. Move or Copy (Test Cases): It allows user selecting multiple test cases from multiple test suites, and then move or copy these test cases to a new location. The new location could either be in same 'Root Test Suite' or other 'Root Test Suite' existed in the project.
  13. Clone (Test Cases): It will clone multiple test cases selected from multiple test suites, and create a copy of test cases in a target test suite, requirement associations can also be cloned.
  14. Remove (Test Cases): It will remove multiple test cases selected from multiple test suites, please note that it only removes the linkage, the test case issues still stay in JIRA project.
